J2U the JCL interpreter for Unix
Support for your migration from MVS to Unix or Linux
The migration from mainframe to Unix is a current issue. Requirements for IT are constantly changing and clients want to be able to use the latest technologies. A migration facilitates lowering costs and allows for the use of new technology.
An important aspect of migrating a host system to another platform is the ability to carry over existing batch processes without putting your tried and tested business logic at risk.
The solution
J2U, the JCL interpreter from itgain, offers an environment in which each of your existing batch jobs can be executed on the new platform. In fact, there is no need to change any of your JCL. Migration projects usually require painstaking conversions of your Job Control Language into Unix/Linux shell scripts or Perl with all the corresponding difficulties and risks. Not so with J2U where jobs are interpreted step by step conforming to the z/OS rule standards.
Benefits of J2U
Increased security: The logic and behavior of single steps within jobs, jobs within job networks and the business logic of your entire batch production remain unchanged. To put it plain and simple: Your batch production will work the same way as before, only on a different platform.
Time and cost savings: None of the usual activities for a migration project, such as code conversions and testing each single job, must be carried out. Hence the direct costs and the duration of the whole project are kept to a minimum.
Full compatibility: J2U emulates the z/OS JCL plus the functionality and control commands of IBM utilities. Logic and file handling within batch jobs are retained. The functions of the central MVS catalog, which contains data on all files in the system, are represented by database tables.
User-friendliness: J2U produces the familiar JES2 job lists that contain status and progress information on jobs. Your production can be controlled by continuing to follow the established rules. Employees with MVS experience benefit from working in the environment they are used to, instantly giving them the ability to continue a speedy development and testing of programs and jobs.
ITGAIN group: We are service providers for IT. The itgain group offers a broad and competent service for all aspects of your MVS migration to Unix or Linux.
